No. 5 S.F.T.S. Brantford - Seeking Info

During WWII, the Brantford Airport was home to No. 5 Service Flight Training School. Here, young pilots from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom were trained for multi-engine Service in Avro Ansons.

This is the nose art from the "A" Squadron training aircraft.

We are actively seeking more information about its history...

Working to preserve another little piece of History...

COPA Flight 148 is currently working with a member of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, to create a replica of this artwork, and learn more of its history. It will be crafted to accurately simulate the original, with an appearance that it came from the historic aircraft.

The replica will be placed on permanent display in the Terminal Building at the Brantford Airport - home of COPA Flight 148, The Brantford Flying Club and the Brantford Flight Center.

The brave young men that trained here, went on to meet the incredible challenges of piloting ever larger bombers in the RAF, and the RCAF. Many would eventually make their way into the left-seat of the mighty Lancaster Bomber that did so much for the Allied war effort, through their skillful hands!

While searching for information relevant to our project to preserve the history, I came upon dozens of amazing pages of WWII Aviation History...

Here is just one example of a very engaging site that I found along the way... Three sons have chronicled their (Guelph, Ontario) fathers' WWII experience - replete with commented transcripts from his personal diary! I found their site based on the fact that he did some of his Training at No. 5 S.F.T.S.!

To read an incredibly compelling, detailed, account from one of his No. 5 S.F.T.S. Training buddies, read Alex “Red” Campbell’s Last Mission. It is about two-thirds of the way down the page...

You can also "see" parts of this story re-enacted on Video... Click Here for an incredibly well done presentation!!! Reading the story first, will give you a greater appreciation for some of the events in the video when you watch it... Be prepared to spend 30 engaging minutes watching this story!

Thank a Veteran today!

ENJOY!!!
